There are four experienced and skilled registered nurses providing a balance of patient care and safety with implementation of complex research interventions and data collection. The GCRC nurses are experienced in the care of patients from diverse medical services such as: cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, hematology, oncology, immunology, neurology, psychiatry. They are continually developing new skills to meet protocol requirements. Their activities include:

  • Individualized nursing care for intensive protocol needs
  • Routine and complex vital sign monitoring
  • Physical exams
  • In-depth individual and family medical history interviews
  • EKG
  • Phlebotomy
  • Timed collection of blood, urine, and stool specimens
  • Administration of questionnaires and standardized tests
  • Medication administration
  • Patient teaching
  • Assistance with procedures
  • Assistance with patient compliance monitoring
  • Medical chart reviews

Patients of all ages are served, from Pediatrics to Geriatrics. Our collaborative practice model includes a working relationship with investigators, physicians, nurse practitioners, research assistants, dietitians, and Core Lab personnel.
